What is the Virtual Store?
The Virtual Store (or VS for short) is the place to buy "fish" and items for your Virtual Tank (or VT for short). Your Virtual Tank is a secure place to buy and grow fish that you can keep as long as you want or sell back to the store for either a profit (if it has grown) or a loss (if it hasn't or cannot grow). Selling fish back within 24 hours will always give you back the price you paid whether the fish has grown or not.
What kinds of things does it Sell?
The VS sells a wide array of "fish" and upgrades and is hosted By Meryl. I will explain the upgrades later.
Body Types
You can buy fish with several different body types. The fish body types you can buy are:
- Guppies for 25 shells
- Carnivores for 100 shells
- Guppy Crunchers for 2,500 shells
- Star Catchers for 2,500 shells
- Beetle Munchers for 3,500 shells
- Breeders for 5,000 shells
- Ultravores for 10,000 shells
- Round and Pointy Bilaterus heads for 10,000 shells (but not their bodies)
- Sylvesters for 15,000 shells
- Wiffle Balls for 20,000 shells
Note: Only Guppies and Carnivores come in special colors, with the exclusion of one pre-named Ultravore, whose color is slightly different.
Special Attributes
Each of the body types can also come with special attributes. These special attributes are:
- Exotic diet: Will eat either ice cream, chicken, pizza or normal diet if that would be special for their body type.
- Voracious/Roaring: Will roar when they eat and may eat more frequently.
- Musical Genius/Singing: Will play a fish song usually after three feedings.
- Very Special Diet: Will eat either guppies, carnivores or ultravores.
- Forwardly Challenged/Back-wards: Will swim and eat facing the wrong way.
- 0-60/Speedy: Will move very quickly.
- Ghost: Will fade in colour until it is blank and re-appear when it eats.
- Extremely Rare: Will have a combination of the above attributes, which may include special colors if available on their body type.
Pre-named Fish
The final type of fish is Pre-named Fish. These fish are very rare and you can only ever have one of each named fish at a time in a single tank. Each of them has their own amusing additional notes. To learn the secret of when you can buy them, see the link at the end of slot G. The Pre-named fish include:
- Rocky - a small guppy who is voracious, eats Ultavores, has his own special color set, drops bags of shells and occasionally runs away/disappears from your tank. The causes for this are unknown.
- Kilgore - an ultravore, who plays fish songs by Wagner, drops big bags of shells, and has his own special color set.
- Johnny V - a carnivore who eats pizza, is a color changer, drops blue shells and occasionally swears he wont eat pizza again.
- Ludwig - a carnivore who plays fish songs by Beethoven, drops blue shells and has his own special color set.
- Cookie - This beetle muncher will feed exotic pets. If you sell Cookie, it will replace anything in the lower left slot in your Virtual Store at the time of sale.
- Santa - is a secret named fish, who is not pre-named. To get Santa, simply buy a normal colored guppy (with any special attributes or none at all) and name it Santa at the time you purchase the fish. Santa will grow each time you feed him until he reaches large size, drop big bags of shells, sing his own special Christmas fish songs and has his own special color set. Naming a fish Santa after you have already purchased it will not work. If you feed Santa 3 times, he will sell back for 150% of what you paid for him 24 hours later. This is a good way to earn shells early.
The Virtual Store
Surrounding Meryl, the VS hostess, are the slots in which the fish and upgrades are for sale. If you mouse over a slot, Meryl will tell you something about the fish or item offered for sale in that slot. Each slot is restocked each day with a single fish or upgrade according to what items are allowed for that slot. You can buy from each slot only once per day, with one exception that I will explain later. After that, you will need to wait until the next day to buy anything from that slot or find some other way to reset your VS. Check the Time Travel Guide section to learn about the secrets of Time Traveling.
The Virtual Store Slots
To make things easy I'll stick with the same names for the slots that Davypi came up with in the first guide. Starting on the left side from the top and going down are slots A, B and C. Moving left to right from slot A at the top are slots D, E, F and G. Finally, in the bottom right corner is slot H.
Here's a diagram to make things easier to visualize:
| A | D | E | F | G |
| B | ||||
| C | H |
Each slot behaves differently.
Slot A
Will always contain a normal colored guppy with no special attributes for 25 shells.
Slot B
Will always contain a normal colored carnivore with no special attributes for 100 shells.
Slot C
Is a special slot that initially sells upgrades for your tank. You must purchase each upgrade in sequence in order for the next upgrade to become available when next the VS restocks. After all the upgrades have been purchased then you will be able to purchase fish in this slot.
Slot C Upgrades
- The Bubbulator is the first upgrade and costs 20,000 shells. Purchasing it will allow you to double the amount of fish your VT can hold from 10 fish to 20 fish.
- The Alien Attractor for 50,000 shells is the next upgrade. This upgrade will allow you to battle aliens in your VT just like in the other modes with one exception, your store bought fish cannot be eaten, shot, or in any other way harmed by the aliens. You will receive a blue shell for each alien you kill. If you do not wish to use the Alien Attractor at any time you can turn it off by hiding it. To turn it back on simply show it again.
- The Vitamin/Food Upgrade is the third upgrade and costs 20,000 shells. Having this upgraded food will significantly increase the rate at which your VT fish will grow, so you may want to buy the other upgrades just to get to this upgrade.
- The Final Slot C Upgrade is actually a pre-named fish called Cookie who costs 50,000 shells. Cookie looks just like any other Beetle Muncher, but she is much more than that. Cookie will feed all your fish that eat anything besides normal food. So, if you plan to keep anything else besides normal diet guppies in your VT then Cookie is a must.
The only time Cookie will not feed all your different exotic diet fish is if you have a fish that eats guppies and the pet Prego or a Breeder who is able to produce guppies present in your VT. In those cases Cookie will allow Prego, the Breeder, or both to feed your guppy-eatters, but will still feed your other types of fish that eat exotic food. Cookie is usually faster than either of those two, so this may mean your guppy eatters will not be eatting as often. Trial and error will help you figure out which set up feeds your guppy-eatters fastest.
Cookie is the exception to the rule on restocking. If you sell Cookie she will immediately reappear in slot C. If there is a fish you wish to buy in slot C and you have Cookie, do not sell Cookie to make room for this fish or else the fish will disappear and Cookie will take that fish's place in slot C.
Slot C Fish
Once you have purchased all the upgrades including Cookie, this slot will sell you fish. It can sell any body type of fish except guppies or carnivores. These fish can come with any set of attributes except pre-named fish besides Cookie. The most common fish body types for this slot are Beetle Munchers, Star Catchers, Guppy Crunchers. Breeders, though less common frequently appear here. There is no known pattern to this slot, yet.
Slot D
Will always contain a specially colored guppy from one of the 32 various colors sets for 500 shells, including color changing for 2500 shells. These guppies will never have any other special attributes beside their special color. Collecting all the various colors can be difficult. No one has determined a pattern for which color will be available in this slot.
Slot E
Will always contain a specially colored carnivore from one of the 14 various colors sets for 1000 shells, including color changing for 5000 shells. These carnivores will never have any other special attributes beside their special color. Collecting all the various colors can be difficult. No one has determined a pattern for which color will be available in this slot.
Slot F
Will sell you any body type except guppies or carnivores. These fish will never have any special attributes. The most common fish body types for this slot are Beetle Munchers, Star Catchers, Guppy Crunchers. Breeders, though less common frequently appear here. There is no known pattern to this slot, yet.
Slot G
This is the only slot that will sell you every body type, color, and attribute include pre-named fish, with the exclusion of Cookie. There is a pattern I discovered for this slot regarding which attributes are available and when. Click here to learn this secret pattern.
Slot H
This slot is another special slot that initially sells backgrounds for your tank. You must purchase four of the six backgrounds offered (and not sell them back) before it will begin to sell you fish in this slot. Once you have purchased all 5 backgrounds and kept the background you get initially, it will only ever sell you fish. The fish sold in this slot can be of every body type, color and attribute, but never pre-named fish. No pattern has been discovered for this slot, yet.
