Debates forum (suggestion)
« on: February 06, 2010, 03:36:23 AM »
I suggest a forum dedicated to debates. Throwing in your opinions and such on various topics, with mainly the same rules as the rest of the board but with certain rules rather harsh. The point would be mature debates, with no shouting or flaming, etc. and any (sensible) argument would be allowed.

I believe this should at least be a subforum, if added at all, because I don't really think debates properly fit into any existing forum without confusions and problems appearing.

I actually thought of this because I wanted to start a Religious Beliefs/Anti-religious beliefs thread.

I personally don't believe that warrants it's own forum.

We had such a thing here, oh these many years ago. There was a lot of shouting involved.

It's been a long time since it was here, since I wasn't here yet.

Meh. No debates for me.

Not even with harsh No Flaming rules?

I've always thought that if a certain need isn't met on the forum, you can always go somewhere else. Or maybe find some IRL people to argue with, or try chatting 1-on-1 in PMs, asking if people want to talk. You could even start up your own forum.

I'm sure you could also hold debates in the lounge.

Good idea.

Not so good.

From the rules...
Quote from: rule 1.e. excerpt
Political topics or topics that may seem to be controversial, divisive or unsuitable may be removed at the discretion of the moderating team.

Generally speaking, debate topics are controversial.  This rule was added to stop the debating that was causing so much trouble in the past.

As I said in my previous post...
It won't be coming back.
